Point Ready Mix Wins 2023 Wisconsin Concrete Design Award
Category: Parking Lot
Project Name: Kwik Trip Somers, WI Store #597
Wisconsin’s largest Kwik-Trip facility was awarded to Swederski Concrete for their knowledge, quality, resources, & ability to quickly place large pavements efficiently.
This 569,000 Sf. (+12,000 cy) pavement-heavy project presented difficult and unique challenges, not just by placing concrete, but also by educating all parties with alternative concrete pavement designs and practices.
During construction, drawing revisions were distributed, adding costly deformed reinforcing, and unnecessary construction joints. Swederski presented a revised schedule and price impact per new designs, and also stood firm on the recommendation to accept an alternative, time-saving, and economically sustainable design.
Swederski, Peter Schwabe, FRC Consultants, Point Ready Mix, NRMCA, WRMCA, and Forta collaborated and received the successfully approved sustainable design which saved Kwik-Trip upwards of $1 million, reduced schedule and safety hazards. Kwik-Trip took occupancy one month after the last concrete delivery.
9 different project mixes were utilized:
- Fly ash was used to reduce the carbon footprint.
- 3,000 & 4,500 psi foundations had 40% fly ash replacement.
- 4,500 psi 6” & 8” Site concrete pavement contained 20% fly ash.
- 3 & 5 lb/cy dosages of macro fibers with high-range water reducers were added to replace steel reinforcement.
