Point Ready Mix wins WRMCA/ACI Wisconsin Chapter Concrete Design Award for Sturtevant Skatepark
On April 23, 2021, Point Ready Mix, working with Evergreen Skateparks, was awarded a 2020 WRMCA (Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association)/ACI (American Concrete Institute) Wisconsin Chapter Concrete Design Award for the Sturtevant Skatepark project in Sturtevant, WI. The project won for the Special Merit – Municipal Facility category.
Sturtevant Skatepark
The Sturtevant Skatepark is one of the first of its kind that is referred to as a ‘skate path’ or ‘skate track’. The circular track encourages perpetual motion throughout the park and holds a crowd extremely well despite the smaller footprint – all while offering a variety of features and different areas to skate. It is a true example of maximizing fun on a smaller budget.
Evergreen Skateparks used 120 cubic yards of 4,500 psi shotcrete concrete mix to create the skatepark for the Village of Sturtevant. The mix contained pea gravel, non-chloride accelerator and a 20% fly ash replacement. It tested out at 6,900 psi, providing an extremely stable surface. The concrete was sprayed onto a rebar cage using a Putzmeister pump in November of 2019, with the project wrapping up in mid-December of 2019. The unique shaping was done by hand to create an impressive looking skatepark.
Concrete’s versatility allowed Evergreen Skateparks to create the multitude of contours needed for this project, while maintaining long-term durability.
